EV Crab Snails
Looking back at the history of electric vehicles “the golden years” from 1890 – 1920 before petrol engines overtook eletric vehicles because of the limit of battery usability and convenience. Porsche [image] was winning races and setting distance records with his Lohner-Porsche produced 1900-1905. 60 years later the Lorhner-Porsche was studied by Boeing and NASA and formed the template for the development of the Luna Rover.
Today we see car companies edging forward with staged developments selling one product after another. Only moving forward with government funding and careful not to loose their counter bribes from the oil industry. I am not fooled and neither is anyone that knows the history and the development of the technologies involved.
Today with petrol and diesel car engines facing bans in Europe 2025 and in other places following, the car makers are moving faster forward. Also some credit should go to Elon Musk for his no bullshit push for a cleaner future. Tesla has [despite its production problems] impressed and wetted the appetites of car buyers of all types, including the petrol speed heads.
Still the problem with electric cars is battery charge power, range and life. Secondly battery life itself has an as yet unrealised second expense because they slump into middle age after only 4-6 years and need replacing. Batteries will keep improving but they will never [foreseeable future] be good enough to GT Bentley Continental from Berlin to Saint Tropez in one Rouche!
Along with the development of battery technology, generator technology has also developed along the lines of smaller, lighter and more efficient.
Imagine if you will – A small block of batteries to power a small modern low-energy use medium torque electric motor attached to a DC generator crank drive – The DC generator is run up to peek performance [usually 1500-1800 revs] and produces enough power to run the drive motors, power the cabin and charge the starter battery pack.
This would give unlimited range and when you arrive the starter battery pack will be fully charged.
A solar panel on the roof would give second battery charge, leaving charge stations as a third level back up.
Just a project for someone to knock up a test proving set-up.
There are now an infinate number of off the shelf small hub drive products to choose from.
Generators are also available made to order in any size and power outpuut configuarations [within size/power limits?]
And as we have seen eletric drive motors designed for car sized weights are also now abundant.
