Tony Blair committed himself, Britain and the British Army freely to George W Bush [Administration's] intention to include Iraq in their Knee-jerk Kick-ass payback battle plan. 

Going after Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan [& Al Qaeda] got Hijacked by a Neo-Hawk frenzy to remake all of the Middle Eastern countries they could. At one point in the development of the Post 9/11 response, 5 countries were being considered for invasion and restructuring into democracies with U.S style Constitutions.

What affect that [if it had become the U.S objective] would have had on the vote in Parliament to attack Iraq - [with a fervent Tony Blair] with America spinning on with reasons for 3 more invasions after 9/11 [ignoring or further committing Britain to its shoulder-to-shoulder pledge] - based on the altered JIC report, would have been an even more bizarre scene.

It would have been interesting to see if going after Osama bin Laden would have included an Invasion & regime change if Osama had been based in Dubai or Scotland?

All intelligence agencies knew that after Gulf War-1 Saddam had fired all of his Scud missiles [the biggest rockets that he ever had] at Israel in the last few days of his failed take-over of Kuwait. The post Gulf War-1 weapons inspections had shown [and were comprehensively satisfied] that Iraq no longer had short-range-mid-range missiles [Scud 800km range max] hardware or a purchase or development plan capability.    

When Iraq / Saddam Hussein’s name came up as possibly being involved it was media-feed and not based on known intelligence about Saddam’s loss of earnings having been downtrodden by U.S Sanctions and increasing civil problems. British intelligence was among the best and up to date and well respected and trusted.

George W Bush asked Tony for help and Tony committed wholeheartedly with very vocal pressure at the UN, with Europe, the media and the dodgy dossier. Tony & gang were forced to alter [“Stronger language”] the British Joint Intelligence Committees Report because it said Iraq was disarmed, was under sanctions and only had Intent.

Parliament [Unqualified for Government politician MP’s] seemed to be ignorant of the Iraq situation/report post 1991-defeat and sanctions and appear to have Remained in the Dark [?] allowing Tony & gang to cook up false [JIC] evidence to get Parliaments support for invading Iraq in 2003.

Tony Blair single headedly led Britain in behind America into the neo hawk rush for retribution against 9/11. Blair followed the American lead to paint Iraq [unconnected to 9/11, a fact never disputed] as an immediate danger and had intelligence manipulated into a lie, silenced any and hounded all expert truth, into suicidal action.

Blair manipulated the truth, the argument and parliament to ultimately take Britain back into the quagmire of occupying the Middle East at great immediate cost and the now mounting costs and unraveling long-terms damage.
